The beginning of the agro-industrial activities undertaken by D.A.F.AL. dates back to the first half of the nineteenth century. Since then, the business has evolved under the influence of the entrepreneurial initiatives of several generations. This evolution has been greatly influenced by the socio-economic changes taking place within the country. There have been many different business ventures, some of which have long-since been discontinued, but from all them you can feel the same inspiring stimulus which is represented by our very close ties to the territory that surrounds them.

The SILK
One of its first (1850) and most important industries, even if, now no longer in production, was silk. They still have the architectural evidence of this activity in the company, these are the silk mills where the cocoons, produced by the larva (the silk worms), were transformed into silk. These silk worms were fed on leaves from the mulberry tree.

The BRICK-WORKS
Another activity was the furnace in which, through the use of local clays, were produced bricks for construction.

Production

WINE
Wine production is still operational for the harvesting of the finest grapes at the “Castle of Prato Ottesola” placed in the area of “Gutturnio” wine.

TOMATOES
D.A.F.AL. were the first company in Europe, in 1968, to import from the U.S. machinery for the harvesting of tomatoes.

SUGAR BEET . . . and ETHYL ALCOHOL
Currently the business of direct distillation is finished, but the experience gained through years of production allows to select from different markets the best suppliers of ethyl alcohol, produced from natural (agricultural) sources. The ethyl alcohol is denatured, packaged and distributed in bottles on throughout the country to the various supermarket chains, etc.

In recent years they have refined the range of products based on ethyl alcohol, by creating the so-called: cosmetic that is proposed so like it is (with alcohol at 90° degrees), with a slight Verbena perfume (at 70.5° degrees) or with Cologne perfume (at gradation of 50° degrees).

DEMINERALIZED WATER
For domestic use, etc..

PEAS
Since 1961 the company grows, harvests, processes and markets canned peas.

LEGUMES
“Borlotti”, “Cannellini” and “Bianchi di Spagna” Beans, Lentils, Soy, Chick-peas. Although these are no longer produced.

FISHING BAITS
The company has also set up a production of natural baits for sport fishing based on grains of sweet corn. This product range is still the market leader and is well known by its market leading trademark PESCAVIVA.

SWEET CORN
In 1971, they began to do what is still the main agro-industrial activity: the cultivation and processing of sweet corn. They were the first company in Europe to do this. The entire production cycle is performed in order to guarantee maximum freshness and it’s completely free of genetically modified material (GMO – FREE).
