In 1558 the name of Jo Francesco Mossi was recorded for the first time in the census registers. A resident of Albareto (Ziano Piacentino, PC), Francesco’s work was also his passion, helping this fertile land to produce what it produces best: grapes and wine.
Since then, 14 generations of winegrowers have followed Francesco’s footsteps: 500 years of work, during which the Mossi Winery has become an asset of this land, rooted in the vineyards like the most tenacious vines.
A blend of past and innovation is what is most noticeable about the Mossi Winery, and that is what made Silvia and Marco fall in love with this story. Since 2014, the young couple took over the baton of the Winery from the hands of Luigi Mossi, picking up his tips and secrets.
The legacy they received immediately revealed three powerful promises: the enhancement of Ortrugo and Malvasia Rosa grapes, experimental research and sustainability.
Moreover, the Mossi Winery has a Museum with a rich collection of agricultural and wine-making tools. The Winery organizes guided tours and tastings (in Italian, English, German and French), where its wines are paired with the delicacies of the area.
Production
Mossi Winery grows traditional local grapes, such as Ortrugo, Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, Barbera and Croatina, in addition to international varieties, like Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Colli Piacentini DOC wines make up the majority of the production, but there are also exclusive labels, expression of Mossi’s uniqueness.
Mossi is proud to be one of the three wineries in the world producing wine with Malvasia Rosa, a spontaneous bud mutation of Malvasia di Candia Aromatica.
Taking care of biodiversity, 24 local varieties are preserved in Mossi’s experimental vineyard, some of which are now exclusive to this collection.
Since 2018, the Winery has joined V.I.V.A – Valutazione dell’Impatto della Vitivinicoltura sull’Ambiente, a national project about improving the performance of sustainability in vineyards and wine production, measuring four indicators (air, water, territory, vineyard).
