We at Illica are lucky enough to live in an extraordinary, enchanting and reserved valley that we feel the duty to preserve and enhance. We breathe pristine air, we walk on clear and bright soils born of ancient tropical seas, we listen to the sweet wail of the fossil shells breaking under our feet, we climb steep slopes to grow our vines and enjoy the beneficial evening breezes that blow from the sea and mountains. Up above, where our oldest vines find their home, a spotless landscape awaits us, where
the eye runs through woods, gullies, vineyards, castles, ancient villages, horses and some isolated houses.
Cold winters and summers that are never too hot, clear skies and cool breezes, strong temperature variations between day and night, are a blessing and manage to create a unique microclimate that
allows you to respect the balance of nature. In our valley there have always been no real reasons to use chemicals and for us, at Illica, organic farming is a
normal family tradition, not a fashion. The biological history of my wines began with my grandfather, the legendary guardian of the art of producing cured meats, continued with his father, a loyal guardian of order, kidnapped by the love for the vines and came to me, conquered by passion for wines that know how to be authentic expressions of a territory free from contamination and pollution.
The organic certification of my grapes was born almost twenty years ago when organic was a new word but, to be honest, in the Illica family, organic is the norm, the history, the tradition. It’s just what we’ve always done.
BIOLOGICAL FIGHT
Since 1990 we have been certified ORGANIC, we have been promoting alternative methods to the use of pesticides.
WINES
We have always produced the classic Piacenza wines, but we specialize in offering novelties and reinterpretations of the territory such as a classic sparkling wine method from native Santa Maria grapes or a Blanc de noirs from Barbera grapes also in a rosé version.
WATER
Reuse of rainwater through its collection in tanks.
SUSTAINABLE VITICULTURE
– Highly specialized viticulture with latest generation machinery;
– Use of recovery atomizers only;
– Inter-row processing without the use of herbicides (mechanical management of weeds).
LOCALITY
Our estate is located in Val d’arda in the Piacenziano Geological Reserve where the lands are rich in fossils, testifying that 5 million years ago the sea lapped the territory which is also in the heart of the Gutturnio DOC area.
